If you are using satnav or google maps please be careful following sat nav instructions if travelling from the north on the A1 - read instructions below)

From the South on the A1 (travelling Northbound) take the first  exit towards Morpeth signposted for the Station for 1.3 miles.  At the roundabout by the co-op take the 2nd exit and stay on A197 for 0.1 miles.  At the next roundabout continue straight to stay on the A197 for 0.2 miles.  Turn left onto the B6524 signposted for Belsay for 1.6 miles.  As you travel along this road you will pass under the A1 then continue on up the hill passing a factory on your right then take the turning on your left at the crossroads signposted Tranwell Woods.  Tranwell Farm Caravan and Camping Site is 0.3 miles on your left.

 

From the North on the A1 (travelling South Bound)

Take the turn off for Morpeth.  At the roundabout take the 1st exit towards Morpeth 0.4 miles.  At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A192 into Morpeth 1.2 miles.  At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto bridge street 0.2 miles.  At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit over the bridge 0.3 miles.  At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A197 heading out of Morpeth 0.6 miles towards the golf course.  You will pass the golf course then take the turn on the right just past the golf club onto the B6524 signposted Belsay for 1.6 miles.  As you travel along this road you will pass under the A1 then continue on up the hill passing a factory on your right then take the turning on your left at the crossroads signposted Tranwell Woods.  Tranwell Farm Caravan and Camping Site is 0.3 miles on your left.

 

From the A1 travelling South Bound (from the north) with a caravan avoiding Morpeth - do not take the turn off for Morpeth, stay on the A1 for 5.6 miles till you get to Stannington Village.  Take the exit towards Stannington 0.3 miles. At the roundabout take the 4th exit towards Stannington.  At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto A1 North slip road for 0.2 miles.  Merge onto A1 for 1.3 miles then follow the directions for travelling Northbound.

 

If you take a miss turn and end up in the middle of Tranwell Woods (by coming through Tranwell Village or Glororum by mistake). At the T Junction in the centre of the woods -  Turn right towards Morpeth then take the second Right.

Travel By Bus

Arriva, Go North East & Travel Line North East

Arriva and Go North East provide excellent bus services around Northumberland with extra routes running during summer months and peak times.

Kids go free this summer with Arriva and can travel for a pound with Go North East. Single bus fares for adults have also been capped at £2 until October 2023, increasing to £2.50 until November 2024.

Northumberland Coast and Castles

Explore the Northumberland Coast and Countryside by Bus with MAX X15, X18 & X20. Arriva’s scenic X18 route runs along the Northumberland coastline from Newcastle to Berwick. It’s an ideal route for walkers heading out to the Northumberland Coast Path. Holy Island Border Buses 477 service currently operates Monday to Saturday between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Holy Island.

Morpeth and south east Northumberland to the coast

Catch Arriva’s X18 service from Newcastle to Berwick, calling at Morpeth, Alnwick, Amble and the coast, while the 418 service covers the Alnwick and Belford. The X15 travels from Newcastle to Berwick and the coast and offers great value family tickets which are transferable on all routes.

Look out for special offers and passes like Arriva’s Passport Weekly and Discover Day tickets. Valid in the north Northumberland area, ticketholders enjoy benefits including discounted rates at attractions including Bamburgh Castle and Bailiffgate Museum.

The AD122 Hadrian's Wall Country Bus operates all year round between Hexham Bus Station and Haltwhistle Rail Station, stopping at all of the major attractions along the wall, making it perfect for sightseeing.
