Woodland Lodges
Oak and Ash Lodge
"Two secluded woodland escapes designed for couples and small families who want to switch off, slow down, and enjoy quality time together in nature"
(Sleep 4)
Open all year
If you're looking for somewhere to slow down, breathe deeply and spend your mornings watching the sunrise. Or enjoy relaxing evenings listening to owls & spotting wildlife, you'll feel right at home here.
We have two cosy Scandinavian-inspired woodland lodges tucked away on our family farm, surrounded by trees, open countryside and big Northumberland skies. A place to slow down, leave the car behind for a while and enjoy the simple things - morning coffee watching the sunrise through the trees, peaceful walks straight from your gate, evenings beside the fire and the chance to spot the incredible wildlife that calls our farm home.
Our lodges aren't about polished luxury. They're warm, comfortable and thoughtfully furnished with a mix of modern and upcycled pieces that reflect our love of sustainability. We hope you'll spend less time looking at the TV (although there is one if you fancy it!) and more time watching the birds, the changing weather and the beautiful views across the fields.
Step inside and you'll find a handy boot room for muddy boots, wellies and dog leads before entering the open-plan living space.
The lodges sleep four guests in two comfortable bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed with a memory foam mattress and looks out across the surrounding farmland, while the second bedroom has two single beds (that can be converted into a super kingsize bed on request), making them ideal for families or friends travelling together.
The modern shower rooms have a spacious walk-in thermostatic shower, wash basin and WC, with plenty of storage for your toiletries.
Although the lodges have full central heating and constant hot water, the log burner is very much at the heart of the cabin. There's something special about coming back after a day exploring Northumberland, lighting the fire and settling down with a good book while the countryside grows quiet outside.
Externally, patio doors open up into a fully fenced woodland garden that feels like an extension of the forest. Offering a serene setting within the trees for alfresco dining and leisurely relaxation.
For your four-legged friends, direct access to a dedicated dog walking field awaits just beyond the garden gate and a picturesque nature trail winds its way through the farm's tranquil landscape beyond.
Conveniently located, Morpeth is within a leisurely 35 to 40-minute stroll from the lodges.
Parking is hassle-free with a spacious parking area right by the door, accommodating up to three vehicles with ease.

Cooking
The kitchen includes a four ring gas hob and a microwave oven, you will also find an amazing Penguin log burning stove with wood fired oven. Just set the fire away about half an hour before you need to cook anything and then pop a grill pan on the top to do toast, or crumpets or saucepan for your porridge. You can use the oven to cook anything you would put in a normal oven from pizza to casseroles, lasagne or mince and dumplings etc. We also provide a slow cooker which is perfect for cooking in when the sun is shining as it will power the slow cooker all day whilst you are out so you can come back to something yummy and warm at the end of the day. If it's a lovely sunny evening you can cook on the bbq too so you have plenty of options. Plus if you don't fancy cooking, Morpeth has an fantastic array of restaurants and takeaways to cover most tastes in food from good British pub food, to Italian, Greek, Indian, the list goes on.
Log fired Hot tubs
Log-fired hot tub (optional)
Each Lodge also has its own private log-fired hot tub, available for £15 per night. We keep this as an optional extra because not everyone wants to use it, and we'd rather guests only pay for what they'll enjoy. The hire charge covers all the logs you'll need and preparing the tub ready for your stay.
Heating a wood-fired hot tub is all part of the experience. It usually takes around 1½ to 3 hours, depending on the weather, but once it's up to temperature it stays wonderfully warm for hours. We'll leave everything ready for you, along with simple instructions, so all you need to do is light the fire, add a few logs and enjoy soaking beneath the stars.

Other things to note...
One of the things that makes our woodland lodges special is that they're powered almost entirely by the sun. A large array of solar panels and battery storage provide all the electricity you need for a comfortable stay while helping us keep our environmental impact as low as possible.
To help us make the most of the available power, we simply ask guests not to use high-powered appliances over 700W (such as air fryers, electric heaters or portable cooking appliances).
Because we're an off-grid farm, we don't have the capacity to charge electric vehicles on site. If you're travelling by EV, we're happy to recommend several convenient charging points nearby.
Being surrounded by woodland and open countryside does occasionally affect the television signal during poor weather, but the Smart TV has access to streaming services and catch-up TV via Wi-Fi, which most guests find works perfectly well. That said, we hope you'll spend more time watching the wildlife outside the window than the television inside!

Sustainable tourism
The lodges have all the modern luxuries you would expect from a holiday lodge however they are run by a bank of solar panels and are completely off grid from mains electric. They are well equipped with gas central heating, 4 ring hob and a wood fired oven and cooking stove, a fridge, tv, wifi, phone chargers, shaver socket and a hairdryer.
Pets
We warmly welcome dogs at Tranwell Farm and know they’re very much part of the family. Each lodge has a fully fenced, secure woodland garden for peace of mind, plus access to walks around the farm, our on-site nature trail and dedicated dog walking field - plenty of space for tails to wag. We also provide a thoughtful dog welcome pack with towels, throws, a water bowl and a few treats to make them feel just as at home as you do.
Access
The lodges are all on one level with a couple of wide steps up to the entrance door. The lodges have large open plan rooms with level floors throughout, there are two bedrooms a double and a twin and a separate shower room. French doors provide access to a large deck with a couple of wide steps down to the woodland garden area. Ample parking is available right by the entrance door.
