A Little Winter Magic

Hello!
There’s something rather lovely about winter in Northumberland. The days grow shorter, the pace of life seems to slow down a little, and suddenly the thought of a cosy log fire, a good book and nowhere in particular to be sounds just about perfect.
Winter is a wonderful time to escape to the countryside. Wrap up warm for a bracing walk along the coast, come back to somewhere warm and cosy, and spend the evening cooking something comforting on the stove, chatting over a glass of something lovely or simply enjoying a little peace and quiet.
With fewer people about, there’s more space to wander, breathe and enjoy the simple things. Perhaps you’ll finally get around to reading that book that’s been sitting on the bedside table, enjoy a long, lazy breakfast or head out for a winter stroll without worrying about the crowds.
And if, like us, you believe that good food is an essential part of a cosy winter escape, we have a little something to make your stay even easier…

Arrive, unpack and put the kettle on
Did you know that you can pre-order delicious, home-cooked food to enjoy during your stay with us?
Our pre-ordered meals can be waiting in your accommodation ready for your arrival, so all you need to do is heat them up, add your favourite accompaniment and settle in for a relaxing evening. No need to head straight back out in search of dinner or spend your first evening cooking from scratch.
It’s a lovely little treat after a day exploring, and the perfect excuse to stay tucked up somewhere cosy.

Christmas shopping, Northumberland style
If you fancy getting into the Christmas spirit, Morpeth is one of our favourite places to spend a winter afternoon. It's full of character, with lovely independent shops, bookshops, art and craft shops and places selling delicious artisan food and thoughtful little gifts.
You can potter around at your own pace, discover something a little different for the people you love and stop for a warming coffee, a slice of cake or a leisurely lunch in one of the town’s fabulous tea rooms and restaurants.
When you need a breather from shopping, take a wander along the River Wansbeck and through Carlisle Park. There’s something lovely about a winter walk beside the water, especially when you’ve got a warm café to look forward to afterwards!
And one of the best things about visiting outside the busiest shopping days? You can enjoy a little more breathing room while you browse.
Fancy a bigger Christmas shopping trip? Hop on the train into Newcastle for a day exploring the shops and soaking up the festive atmosphere at the Christmas Markets before heading back to the peace and quiet of the countryside.
A few more winter days out we love

A festive visit to Bamburgh Castle
A trip to Bamburgh is always special, whatever the season, but there’s something particularly magical about visiting when the castle is dressed for Christmas. Enjoy the festive displays, take in the incredible coastal views and perhaps finish with a walk along the beach, with the castle towering above you.
Winter at The Alnwick Garden
The Alnwick Garden has its own kind of winter magic, with the gardens taking on a completely different feel at this time of year. Wrap up warm, enjoy a wander and make a day of exploring Alnwick.
And no trip to Alnwick would be complete without popping into Barter Books. One of our favourite ways to spend a chilly afternoon is browsing the shelves of this wonderful second-hand bookshop before finding a spot beside the fire with a mug of hot chocolate. If that doesn’t sound like a perfect winter afternoon, we’re not sure what does!
Of course, you can always keep things simple, too. A long coastal walk, a wander around a pretty market town or a day spent doing very little at all can be just as special.
A little winter treat from us

If all this talk of cosy evenings and slower days has you dreaming of a winter escape, we have a couple of lovely offers to help you make it happen.
Stay four nights and pay for just three
Fancy a longer break? Enjoy four nights for the price of three on eligible midweek stays in our accommodation. It’s the perfect excuse to extend your escape, explore a little more of Northumberland and enjoy an extra day of doing absolutely nothing!
A little time just for you
We’ve also introduced a special solo traveller discount for anyone who fancies getting away on their own for a little rest and relaxation.
Whether you’re craving some peaceful time to yourself, a few days of walking and exploring, or simply a change of scenery and a chance to recharge, you’re very welcome here. Sometimes a little time away on your own is exactly what you need.
Keep an eye on our booking diary for availability and offer details.
Booking your next escape just got easier

We’ve been making a few changes behind the scenes, including introducing our new booking system to make planning your stay much simpler.
You can now browse availability in an easy-to-view diary format, making it much easier to see exactly which dates are available for each of our properties and camping pitches.
We’ve also added a secret code section at the start of the booking process. If you have a Quiet Circle or returning guest discount code, simply enter it there to access your special offer.
We hope this makes finding your next little escape that bit easier!
A little update from the farm

As the seasons change, things at the farm begin to slow down a little, too.
Our campsite will close at the end of October for its winter break, reopening at Easter 2027. We’ll miss welcoming our campers and caravanners over the colder months, but the fields will be having a well-earned rest before another busy season.
The good news is that our woodland lodges and Ireby farm cottage remain open all year round. So, if a winter getaway is calling, you can still enjoy the peace and quiet of the farm, whatever the weather is doing outside.
We’re also busy working behind the scenes on something rather exciting… Rosie's pod is being completely transformed into a luxurious en-suite cabin for two, designed to welcome guests all year round. We can’t wait to share more as things take shape, so watch this space!
Until next time…
Whether you’re dreaming of Christmas shopping, bracing coastal walks, festive days out or simply a few nights away from the everyday, we hope there’s a little winter magic waiting for you here in Northumberland.
Thank you, as always, for supporting our little family farm and choosing to spend your time with us. We love welcoming you here, and we look forward to seeing familiar faces again, as well as meeting plenty of new ones.
Until then, keep cosy, take a little time for yourself and enjoy the slower side of the season.
Warmest wishes,
From all of us at Tranwell Farm Holidays 💚
